Clearwater Fish Safe Series
The "Best Available Technology" for Fish Protection
The "Double Safety" Factor
Every model in the Clearwater FS-Series—including both the cylindrical FS-CW and shallow-water FS-SW screens—is an Active System featuring continuous, water-driven hydraulic cleaning. While federal guidelines permit "Active" screens to operate at an approach velocity of 0.40 fps, our FS-Series is intentionally governed by its massive surface area to max out at the ultra-safe "Passive Limit" of 0.20 fps. This mathematically guarantees protection for the weakest swimming fry, even if cleaning were to temporarily fail.
Safely excludes sensitive species
What Does "Fish-Safe" Mean?
At its core, being Fish-Safe means the intake is biologically neutral, preventing three main types of harm: Entrainment (sucking in fry), Impingement (pinning fish against mesh), and Injury (descaling).
-
Strict Agency Compliance: Universally meets rigorous NOAA/NMFS, CDFW, and WDFW guidelines under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
-
Water Rights Protection: Using non-compliant equipment can lead to heavy fines or an immediate shutdown of your water supply.
-
Infrastructure Reliability: A screen safe for fish is safe for your pump. Active cleaning prevents "blinding," stops cavitation, and requires zero manual scrubbing.
Why Choose the FS-Series?
A "Set It and Forget It" solution that protects your infrastructure and the fishery.
Clearwater Iso-Flow Core™
Engineered to keep the flow through the wetted screen as even as possible. This completely eliminates high-velocity suction "hotspots," allowing for a perfectly even flow distribution.
Built for Compliance Sizing
We've eliminated sizing guesswork. Model numbers round down to their Fish-Safe baseline at the strictest regulatory limit (0.20 fps). Specify an FS-CW 2400, and you are guaranteed compliant flow.
Zero-Power Operation
Driven entirely by water pressure from your pump's discharge. No electric motors, gearboxes, or remote solar panels are required at the intake site.
No External Moving Parts
Unlike rotary drum screens, our system has no external chains, sprockets, or seals to jam with driftwood or freeze in winter. All mechanisms are safely protected inside.
Universal Installation
Heavy-duty sealed bearings allow the screen to be mounted at any angle—vertical, horizontal, or inclined—making it perfect for uneven riverbanks or floating platforms.
Heavy-Duty Mesh Construction
Utilizes highly durable 12-Mesh Stainless Steel (~0.055" opening), which provides 40-50% porosity and is safely smaller than the federal 3/32" maximum limit.
Self-Protecting Insurance
An engineered internal Orifice Restriction heavily limits flow if an overdraw occurs, physically preventing pump cavitation and massive biological compliance violations.
Active Monitoring Ready
Pre-plumbed with dedicated sensor ports, allowing seamless integration of Differential Pressure monitors into your SCADA to satisfy proof-of-cleaning mandates.

Compliance Math
Analyzing: FS-CW 1000
1. TOTAL WETTED AREA (Atotal)
2. MAXIMUM SAFE FLOW (Q)
Calculated strictly to never exceed the ultra-safe 0.20 fps passive limit, ensuring our Double Safety Factor.
3. CAVITATION GUARD (ORIFICE RESTRICTION)
Engineered to induce severe head loss (Hf) to physically prevent pump overdraws.
